Depression due to alcohol? or is it the other way around? Obviously depending on the individual either one of these problems can lead to the other. One thing is clear these two issues often come together. It’s no wonder that depression and alcohol are linked since both affect the central nervous system components, the brain and the spinal cord. The relaxation felt when consuming alcohol is caused by a slowing down of the central nervous system by the alcohol. Some people who feel depressed think they can be cheered up by having a drink and make the feelings of desperation go away.
Everyone with a clear head realizes this temporary euphoria is short-lived and really just masks the symptoms of depression and usually results in increased anxiety due to alcohol. As the sufferers drink over time they require more and more alcohol to feel the same release from sadness which leads to alcoholism. As the progression downward continues the alcohol can cause mental and physical problems. Depression due to alcohol is a common mental issue, while liver and kidney damage are common physical problems. Additional mental problems besides depression are retardation, memory loss and other psychotic episodes.

Question by CrazyyMike: Can alcohol cause anxiety when a person is drunk? Has it ever happpend to you?
I know alcohol is a sedative and normally relaxes people, but I also noticed that some people get more hyper when they’re drunk and it seems to have the opposite affect… so is it possible for someone who is already anxious for example to drink and make the anxiety worse and lead to an anxiety attack when drunk?

.Panic episodes begin with a silent mimicker and taunter for those who suffer from the attacks. It starts with those daft feelings and thoughts and taunts the victim with them, until the situation has grown and fired itself into something that’s unmanageable, and the person is overcome with panic. For those that suffer on a daily or even hourly basis with fear and anxiety, it may seem the fight will never be over. But there’s treatment out there for people that want it.
The best treatment comes in 2 forms and works together. The first being medical and the other being emotional. First, it’s significant for any panic episode treatment for the chemicals in the brain that are influenced by panic and fear, are corrected to the proper levels. Lots of times, these panic attacks are simply a chemical disparity that may be corrected with a tiny dose of medication. Once that medical piece is taken care of and has had time to work, it’s imperative for any panic victim to get help in sorting out their panic and fear feelings with a pro.

I have had panic attacks and GAD for the last two years and have recently noticed that if I have some cocktails in the evening the next day is like a rollercoaster of panic attacks. Feeling like my throat is closing and I am losing control of my body. Is there a direct link between alcohol consumption and panic and anxiety disorders? I should mention that on days I do not consume alcohol I am 80-90% okay. Has anyone out there found this to be the case?
