I was referred to a… psychiatrist?!?

I was curious to how normal this is:

My husband told me that if I cared about our relationship I would go get help due to my irritability an difficulties giving up alcohol. I was a daily drinker for 5 years, went through 6 days of acute withdrawal after I stopped and still cannot sleep and am irritable, but I haven’t had a drink now in 49 days (May 24) but quit for the first time March 19 (2 months prior).

Today, I did go to the therapist for an intake appointment and she made me a treatment plan that included:

1. Individual therapy sessions
2. AA meetings and/or community inter-focus group
3. Psychiatric evaluation

To be honest, I was floored by the last. It didn’t seem as though they were used to giving psychiatric referrals. Is this normal?

I quit drinking in November and was in the hospital because i was withdrawing really badly. The doctor said I was alcohol dependent. He said it would take three weeks to withdraw from the alcohol. Anyways, I slipped up and had some drinks in January and February and still managed to have withdrawals symptoms. I still had the really bad anxiety and confusion like right before i stopped drinking. So how long does it take to not have withdrawal symptoms??

What will happen if I take an anti-anxiety medicine (Xanax) while drinking alcohol?

I need medication for my anxiety/depression (I’m going through counseling too), but also want to be able to have a drink occasionally. Do you know of any anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication that it is safe to drink with? I will ask my psychiatrist when I see him in two weeks but until then I’m hoping to get some answers and look into these meds as possibilities.

I really have no vices, except, after my wife had an affair a few years ago, I decided to do the same, except I can’t stop. These women feed my ego by telling me how good-looking, “big” and good in bed I am, and they are better than my wife in practically every way except I wouldn’t want anyone else to be the mother of my kids, 12 and 9.

Anyway, I want to trade in this sex addiction for some other, more accepted addiction. Suggestions?

I’m considering being an alcoholic to get over my social anxiety. I’ve tried some medicines like lustral and some herbal stuff but they didn’t help much but when i drink too much in the evenings i feel relaxed at work next morning. If you ask me i prefer to be an alcoholic rather than living with stress and pain everyday. Alcohol can shorten my lifetime but same will happen other way as well. I don’t want to grow a tumor in my brain because of being under strees 5 days in week. I need your advices.

If I see my doctor about alcohol withdrawal symptoms what will he actually do?

I have been trying to stop drinking but cannot seem to make it much more than 24 hours before the withdrawal symptoms become more than I can handle. I get dizzy, nauseous, clumsy, agitated, tired but unable to sleep and my vision get a little fuzzy. It was suggested to be I see my doctor before trying to quit and he would be able to help me with these symptoms. Thing is I do not have health insurance right now and am afraid if I am official diagnosed as an alcoholic it will be problematic when I can afford insurance. Is there really anything the doctor would be able to do for me? I certainly cannot afford any type of inpatient treatment.

What’s worse on your body to control anxiety? Klonopin Or Alcohol?

I’m prescribed Klonopin (clonazepam) 1 1/2 .5 mg tablets per day which is definantly not even touching the volume or anxiety I have.

My old doctor had me on 3 1 mg Tablets per day, which worked better but I find myself taking 2 mg to 3 mg to control my attacks sometimes multiple time’s a day.

Because I don’t have insurance yet with my job I have to deal with a state issued doctor, and she doesn’t exactly like giving out clonazepam to anyone so lately I’ve been turning to Alcohol to control the outbreaks.

I really have no other option because I’m lucky my current doctor even give’s me the Klonopin and there’s no way she would up the dosage (I’ve asked before multiple time’s)

I’m also on 100mg of Lamictal in the morning and 100 mg of seraquel at night.

So my question is,

Which is worse for your body? Liver, Kidneys Ect.

Or does anyone have any suggestions?
