it is called antibuse will make her sick if she drinks
There are medications that doctors will prescribe but more than likely they will ask her to check into a hospital. Detox is not only painful it is dangerous (though it is less dangerous than continuing to abuse alchohol)…
Cardiac dysrhythmias, shock, breathing problems are just a few serious complications. You are not likely to be equipped to handle that on your own. The best chance for success is to help her to get to a place where people are experienced and careing and can help her through this dangerious and emotionally difficult process.
She possibly needs inpatient rehab…most doctors won’t prescribe medications for this without some type of treatment. The best medication for this is antabuse…it triggers negative side effects to occur when a person consumes alcohol with this meds (nausea, vomiting)…it’s like a behavior modifier…stay away from the activities that cause you physical illness. She may also benefit from certain sedatives/anti-anxiety meds to ease the withdrawl symptoms. If you have failed before trying to do this on your own, you should consider getting her medical help.
She needs to go to the hospital. That is the safest way to detox, they’ll give her librium and some other meds to control the shakes and d.t.’s, and Iv’s to hydrate her. Just please, don’t try it at home, it could be very dangerous. She could suffer from a heart attack or internal bleeding. My boyfriend and I are both in recovery and go to AA, and we’ve heard horror stories about home detox. Be careful, and GOOD LUCK!!
I know it doesn’t seem right to take a drug to get off of a drug or alcohol but read this article. It may help. Good luck to both or you.
Oh my gosh, don’t try to help her detox! Alcohol withdrawals are one of the very worst kinds, and she could die if she isn’t being supervised by a medical professional. Does she have any family? Friends other than you? Interventions work, please do whatever you have to to get her the medical help she needs. And as a second point, if she dies or gets badly injured, you could be held liable for that, and you don’t want that, especially since you obviously care. Here’s some info that may help you:
Mild reactions to alcohol detox can include tremors (the shakes), headaches, vomiting, perspiration, restlessness, lose of appetite and insomnia. More serious effects of alcohol detox can be Delirium Tremors (DT’s), autonomic hyperactivity and seizures (convulsions). It has been estimated that 1 in 4 patients are at high risk of a withdrawal seizure if not medically treated during alcohol detox. The time necessary for alcohol detox can be anywhere from 3 to 14 days. A variety of medications and procedures are used to detox from alcohol in a medical environment. Buprenophex, certain benzodiazepines and anticonvulsant medication are some of the medications used.
I have also included a link to the sites intervention page. I hope that helps, god bless you, and try to do the right thing. Good luck.
Well she needs to be supervised. She can go into the DTs and have seizures etc. I don’t think it’s a wise idea to do it without medical help or at least some kind of home care thing where someone (nurse, etc.) drops in to check and see how she is progressing and that should be at least daily. But she sounds like a very serious alcoholic and I would not recommend you try it at home.
you can’t help her at this point, she needs to check into a clinc where they can monitor and treat her if she starts the dts and hallucinations which will definitely come, and you will not be able to handle them.
she will get violently sick and will hurt all over, this is not domething to be taken lightly… she need supervision from professionals,, there are all kinds of centres who provide a 30 day detox clinic live in…..
