I have been drinking heavily since the middle of june, i.e., over 6 beers a day, up to 20 on a party night, there were a few days where i was drinking heavily for more than a week straight. I need to stop because I started blacking out and blacked out for more than 4 hours the other night and got some money stolen. So, I am stopping, will I have any withdrawal symptoms? What are the health risks of drinking that much for that long? Note, the reason I was drinking so much was because I was in a band, we partied a lot but we broke up and I’m cleaning up my act. Alcohol is my only drug though, I don’t do anything else.
So this is pretty serious then eh? I thought it wouldn’t be too bad because it has only been a couple of months, but I think I am having a little bit of Delirium Tremens, I have a few of the minor symptoms, shaking, cold sweats at night and some stomachaches but its pretty bearable. Should I really see a doctor?

I know that it involves more than just staying away from drugs or alcohol. What else does a person have to do?

Alcohol abuse is the recurrent and excessive use of alcohol. Left untreated it could become a psychological or physical dependence referred to as an addiction.
