Article by Ed Philips

Most people who give up alcohol suddenly end up experiencing mild to moderate alcohol withdrawal symptoms as a result of the body reacting to the sudden withdrawal of something that it was used to or dependent on. The term alcohol withdrawal syndrome is used for describing the whole group of symptoms that occur as a result of sudden withdrawal from alcohol after a prolonged period of consumption.

Hardly anyone will escape either part of extensive alcohol withdrawal symptoms and not only alcoholics but even heavier or frequent drinkers will suffer the effect when they stop drinking alcohol overnight.

There are different degrees of alcohol withdrawal symptoms ranging from mild to moderate to extreme. This is the major reason for having to get proper medical advice before stepping into a new alcohol free life; as although you may get off lightly, the situation is an unpredictable one and the resulting reaction could be severe.

Mild to moderate physical alcohol withdrawal symptoms include being physically sick, headaches, nausea, sweaty hands, loss of appetite, palpitations, a pale complexion, enlarged or dilated pupils, insomnia, involuntary movement of the eyes and eyelids, shaky hands and excessive perspiring. If you are about to give up or have just given up consuming alcohol, then you are about to encounter some or all of these mild to moderate physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms.

A person who quits alcohol not only experiences these physical symptoms but will also suffer from several mild to moderate mental or psychological symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. To mention just some of these symptoms will include mood swings, nervousness or anxiety attacks, irritability and emotional instability, weariness, trembling, depression, a lack of ability to think clearly and cohesively and repetitive nightmares or bad dreams.

The majority of the previously mentioned symptoms can be easily treated through outpatient monitoring and medication. But unfortunately the more severe withdrawal symptoms will require patients to be admitted to medical installations in order to receive around the clock monitoring and specialized treatment.

We will now move onto the really serious symptoms due to alcohol withdrawal which can include involuntary muscular contractions, perturbations, hallucinations and high fever. There is an even more serious disorder called delirium tremens which can lead to hallucinations and a confused state of mind. In more extreme cases it can cause black outs and temporary memory loss resulting in not being able to remember past events.

Conclusion: In case you or someone else close to you is experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms, then it is advised that you consult a medical practitioner as soon as possible. The practitioner will let you know about the severity of your alcohol withdrawal symptoms, and treat you accordingly. Most probably, you can be treated with some prescribed medication that you can take on your own, but in case the symptoms are severe then you would need to be admitted to a medical facility for treatment.

Nine times out of ten people just can’t handle the withdrawal symptoms and will inevitably start back on alcohol. It is so important to get that medical advice and support just to give you a chance of quitting once and for all and not falling back into the chaotic life of alcoholism.

stabilized without it in in a hospital setting?

By obscene amount, I’m talking about up to 1/2 a gallon of vodka a day (yes, I’m serious). They have drank this way for years. They are not hospitalized for alcoholism.

The person in question is receiving meds and vitamins etc. to help through the withdrawal, but how long till the withdrawal (physical) of alcohol becomes a non factor in their treatment?
LOL it’s not me. I drink a lot, but not nearly that much!

Article by Adjone Robin

The body’s reaction to the removal of a substance it has become dependent on is called alcohol withdrawal. Alcohol Withdrawal causes craving for more of the substance being removed. The period of time when the body is trying to overcome its addiction is called detoxification. Alcohol Detoxification is the first step in overcoming an alcohol addiction such as drugs or alcohol. Alcohol Detoxification is a pertinent step for the patient is to get successful alcohol rehabilitated.

Alcohol detoxification is usually accomplished in an inpatient medical facility. The key to a successful, planned detoxification is preparation. The first job of therapy is to bring the patient to a point of readiness to change their drinking behavior. Second, patients need to be given accurate information about what to expect during alcohol detoxification.

There are two alcohol withdrawal categories: minor, meaning early alcohol withdrawal and major, meaning late. The severity of alcohol withdrawal depends greatly on the alcohol addiction. Withdrawal Syndrome falls into three main categories: central nervous system excitation, excessive function of the autonomic nervous system, and cognitive dysfunction. Addiction enhances inhibitory effects on signal-receiving neurons, neuronal activity is lowered. Alcohol Detoxification is intended to relieve physical symptoms such as: shaking or tremors, headaches, vomiting, sweating, restlessness, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, hyperactivity, and convulsions and other alcohol damages. Alcohol detoxification medications are similar to drug detox medications: Buprenophex, certain benzodiazepines and anticonvulsant medications. Drinking completion can take from three to fourteen days.

Medical management of alcohol and alcohol withdrawal during detoxification often is not sufficient to produce sustained abstinence from recurrent use. Therefore, further alcohol addiction treatments are needed to prevent relapse to alcohol and drug use following alcohol treatment of alcohol.

In conclusion, drug and his detoxification can effectively prepare the addicted abuser for drug rehabilitation and treatment. Some physicians believe the drug withdrawal phase is related closely to the addiction – the worse the drinking , the more likely the continued use of the chemical to prevent alcohol withdrawal. Several factors are key to successful alcohol detoxification.

Alcohol recovery is important because: Most people don’t think about alcohol abuse and its effects- but they should. Drinking has destroyed many lives and broken apart many families. It impairs your judgment and affects the way you think, feel and communicate and much more. Thus what are the Best ways of alcohol recover.

Here we are presenting some options to help if you or you know someone is suffering from this, let’s have a look: Mostly the holidays and drinking go together but this should not be the case and the same is also not good for alcohol withdrawal. And most of the people even think that there is no cure for it however it can be cured. Yes, addiction is a treatable disease. However the toughest part is realizing alcohol recovery very late. When, the person’s body is not able to function anymore.

The best way to addiction recovery is to discuss this with your family and the Doctor. And ask for help. You may have to take medicines to hopefully heal the damages of the alcohol. And the alcohol cravings you may experience will be tough. Depending on how long you have drunk it may take a lot of patience.

Your body may go through a lot of problems like brain is not functioning correctly, making accurate decisions can be damaging depending on the situation. Many people everyday die because of drinking damage. The most dreadful way to die and it is moreover a pain for loved one too.

Article by Marcus Washington

When it comes to alcoholism withdrawal, there is nobody who enjoys this process, but it’s necessary in order to live a healthy life. The reality is, if you are an alcoholic and drinking is a constant friend of yours, attempting to give it up can and likely will be very difficult.

With that said, however there are ways to make it more bearable. Here are some tips you can take action on immediately to curb the negative affects of withdrawal.

What are some of the things that you can expect to experience when you stop drinking? While it will be different from one person to another, there is a list that universally generally covers everybody.

These can be anything from worrying constantly, being dizzy or sweating, seizures, throwing up, getting sick frequently, blackouts, depression, etc. there are many more that could be added, and you obviously won’t experience all of them, but probably will go through several in your attempt to stop drinking.

In reality, these symptoms are very temporary, but many alcoholics have heard horror stories from others who’ve attempted to quit, and therefore simply keep drinking in order to avoid these negative affects.

Of course, this isn’t the answer, because in the long run drinking will have long term negative affects on your body, whereas withdrawal is very short term, so you are essentially trading short term pain for long term pain.

If you have made the decision to go through alcoholism withdrawal, congratulations! While it won’t be a fun process by any stretch, it’s very necessary.

Her are the steps generally associated with withdrawal, to give you a better understanding of the process. The first is that you will usually be given some sort of medication that will curb the negative affects you are likely to experience.

No, these won’t cut out them altogether, but will dramatically lessen the negative affects you do experience, and therefore you certainly should use them while attempting to stop drinking. Be sure to consult with an expert before doing so.

Often times, at the end you will be given a tranquilizer in order to sedate you for one week and sometimes more.

Many times, in the programs, particularly at the end, there is a period where you can’t drink at all in order to “dry out”, as they say. During this time, you will be watched very carefully to see what kinds of symptoms you exhibit, in order to determine if any more treatment is necessary to get you back to full health.

The bottom line? Obviously, nobody enjoys alcoholism withdrawal, but it’s necessary, and when you do so under the watchful eye of your local alcoholism detox center, the negative affects you do experience will be cut down dramatically.

In the Associated Press they did a report that over 41 million people are exposed to pharmaceutical drugs in TREATED drinking water. We have all heard the saying ‘There is something in the water’ Well There IS. Time to Stand UP and Get Pissed for Once AMERICA. Remember your baby’s formula is now being contaminated with drugs. And there is NO FEDERAL or STATE REGULATIONS ON WATER TREATMENT FOR DRUGS. ‘There Is Something In The Water’ well this saying is no more just an idea of a conspiracist. This is what is really going on across America from major cities to suburban neighborhoods. Are you the Americans going to take this with a smile. Are you going to trust the government to fix this problem when they dont even have any regulations for it. What are you going to do. The New World Order, Big Corporations taken over, 911 inside job, Alex Jones, Micheal Moore, George Bush, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, IRS, Illuminati, Free Masons, WTC, Major Media, Corrupt Politicians, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Jews running the world, Terrorist trying to take freedom, etc. All of this does not matter when Americans cannot even get up and DEMAND CLEAN WATER. Below is a list of some of the pharmaceuticals they found in TREATED drinking water. ANTIBIOTICS Amoxicillin — for pneumonia, stomach ulcers Azithromycin — for pneumonia, sexually transmitted diseases Bacitracin — prevents infection in cuts and burns Chloramphenicol — for serious infections when other antibiotics can’t be used Ciprofloxacin …

Alcohol addiction is a term with multiple and sometimes conflicting definitions. While the ingestion of alcohol is necessary to develop alcoholism, the use of alcohol does not necessarily result in addiction. The quantity, frequency and regularity of alcohol consumption combined with the ramifications of financial loss, family disruption, loss of employment and health problems all contribute to the definition.

Contrary to what you may have heard alcohol addiction is not an incurable brain disease. In fact, it is not a disease at all! But, for decades people have believed that alcohol addiction is a disease. Most psychologists, counselors and specialists today still believe that alcohol addiction is an incurable disease that must be “managed” for a lifetime, and that “there is no cure”
However, it’s not a genetically predisposed disease that is handed down through faulty genes.

The current biopsychosocial disease model of alcoholism is as follow:
The biological theory – Suggests that habitual users of drugs or alcohol have a biological abnormality that causes them to become addicted. The theory suggests that certain individuals are genetically predisposed to addiction by a faulty gene or perhaps a chemical imbalance in the brain, which renders addiction an incurable disease!

The psychological theory – Views drug or alcohol addiction as problematic behavior. In other words the individual uses alcohol or drugs to enjoy the effects that these substances have on the mind and body.

The sociological theory – Suggests that societies which produce higher levels of inner tensions such as guilt, stress, suppressed aggression and conflict have higher rates of addiction. Furthermore, the model suggests that societies that are permissive of and encourage such behavior have higher rates of addiction.

You see, millions of people in the United States have parents who were addicted to alcohol, while they are not addicted to substances of any kind, and never have been.

In my opinion, the sociological aspect determines what type of addiction someone chooses, largely due to nothing more than exposure. Therefore, it is important to make a lifestyle change. This may include adopting a new circle of friends and activities that are not conducive to drinking!

Now, of course these are common sense philosophies, and while they all can be helpful, none of them will mean a darn thing if you don’t get to the root of what is causing your emotional distress!

It is also no big secret that people enjoy the effects of alcohol! But, why can some enjoy it occasionally while others need it daily? The stark difference here is that the occasional drinker is using it just for that; enjoying the experience while the habitual drinker is using it deaden the pain of their emotional trauma. In many ways, this is a solution for people addicted to alcohol! It gets rid of the need to see the truth and deal with their emotional pain. But, I assure you there is a better way to deal with the emotional pain. One that you can work through in the privacy of your home!

You know, some people think that to overcome alcoholism it’s just a matter of having the will to stop drinking, but it is not a matter of willpower at all. For many people, suffering from this addiction it is a temporary solution for deadening the pain of underlying emotional issues. Therefore, most do not crave alcohol because of a chemical dependency, but rather because of the happiness it brings them in removing their emotional pain.

Addiction is not a disease because it is actually a symptom that arises due to the need to deaden the pain of underlying emotional trauma caused by family dysfunction.

Once this emotional pain and trauma is removed and self-esteem is restored, the symptoms disappear, and alcohol will become repulsive to you.

The following is a brief outline of the 5 steps to addiction freedom. Prior to following these steps or any addiction recovery program, take the necessary time to ascertain whether you require the additional support of an addiction counselor or medical attention regrading withdrawal.

1. Step One: Unearth the Square Root

Family dysfunction is the common denominator, or square root of all addictive behavior, and until it is brought to the forefront and confronted nothing will change! This is by far the most important and critical step of the entire process. There are two parts to step one, and they are as follows:

A. Uncovering your family dysfunction

Physical abuse
Sexual abuse
Verbal abuse
Alcoholic parent
Controlling parent
Inadequate parenting

B. Confront the parent or parents responsible for the dysfunction

The thought of confronting the person that is responsible for your emotional trauma is one the most frightening situations you will face. However, it is also the most liberating and empowering thing you’ll ever do! Why do you need to confront your parent or parents? Well, first let me clarify the meaning of the word confront and in what context we are using this term. Confronting the person does not at all mean that you should verbally attack them for your misfortunes. On the contrary, you are not doing this for them. You are doing it for you! The confrontation is not meant to be an attack, but it is rather a chance for you to set the record straight and drop the emotional baggage that you’ve been toting around.

2. Step Two: Remove your Emotional Baggage

You have completed step one and have confronted your parent or parents. This in and of itself will have removed much of the pain and emotional trauma. However, to fully free yourself from their emotional stronghold, it will be necessary to find forgiveness in your heart for a family member that has committed an atrocity against you. Forgive! How can I forgive someone that committed these atrocities against me? Many people have a misconception about forgiveness. Forgiveness is not reconciliation! There is a drastic difference between the two. Reconciliation would mean that you have accepted and submit to their behavior and have agreed to try and continue the relationship under those circumstances. Forgiveness means that you merely give up or cease the resentment of the offender.

3. Step Three: Cure Wounditis

Without question, partaking in habitual behavior not only causes you pain but, it inflicts pain on the people around you as well. However, do not allow what you have done in the past or what others have done to you, to cause you to live in fear of what the future holds. The past is the past, it is over, and living in it does not serve anyone well. Live in the present moment, be kind to yourself, and learn to love yourself. How can you love someone else if you don’t love yourself? The answer is you can’t!!! It isn’t a big secret that you’re feeling shame and guilt for what you’ve done. In fact, you’re probably questioning right now as to whether you should be punished for your past actions. Well guess what, its ok! God doesn’t punish people, we punish ourselves. God is a loving and forgiving being. So if you thought that you would continue to punish yourself with shame and guilt before God gets a hold of you, you can stop right now! We do not have defects of character, are not full of shortcomings, and we certainly are not powerless! On the Contrary, we are all the same, we are all connected, and we all have the same power to change!

4. Step Four: Awaken the Power within

Whether you want to admit it or not, all of the pain you have been through concerning your habitual behavior is a spiritual lesson. And until you view it as such, it will continue to cause you suffering and unhappiness. Every dark cloud does have a silver lining, and if you look hard enough you’ll find one in this habitual situation too. However, to find that silver lining you must ask the right questions;

1. What can I learn from my addiction?

2. How can I grow from it?

The answers to these questions can be found in a place that is uncharted by most, and it is just waiting to be explored! It’s called your true self! To embark on a journey of Self -reflection requires the practice of Mediation.

For more information on mediation you can visit my website below.

5. Step five: Practice Acts of Random Kindness

Happiness is a state of mind. Individuals that are suffering from addictive behavior are not happy! Ironically, in an attempt to find happiness, they chose a vehicle to mask their emotional pain through the use of alcohol, illicit drugs, and various other compulsions. However, happiness is never found on the outside in material possessions or in the abuse of substances and compulsions! True life happiness can only be found in one place, and that place is within! Happiness is not found in the practice of outward ideals or in other people. To the contrary, it is actually the small acts of random kindness that opens the heart and fuels the principle of unconditional love!

To practice spirituality is to be of service to your fellow man and make no mistake about it that is why we are all here. Begin with small acts of kindness such as opening a door for someone, letting someone go before you in the checkout line or just taking the time to offer a kind word to an older person or a child. You get the picture! The first thing I do upon waking in the morning is think of how I can be of service, and throughout the day I am always mindful of opportunities that present themselves for me to do just that. You know, the paradox of the whole thing is that the more kind and generous you are the more love, kindness and abundance you’ll receive back. Don’t believe me! Just try it and watch what begins to happen to you.

The next morning; however, I experience anxiety which perpetuates throughout the entire day. I do not suffer from anxiety and it is not a hangover because it will still occur even after just consuming 1 drink. I don’t know what I’m suffering from whether it could be an allergy to alcohol or whatever else. If you could please shed some light for me, that would be great. I looked up this already online and all the info I found only pertains to people who consume a massive quantity of alcohol or those who are alcoholics. I’m neither. I’m 22 yrs old and healthy so I have no idea what this could be. Thanks.

A Quiz To Help Determine If A Person Has A Drinking Problem. The disembodied voice shows up a lively party and manages to make everybody feel bad about drinking by having them play the “National Drinking Game” – a quiz to help determine if a person has a drinking problem. Alcoholism is one of the most common psychiatric disorders with a prevalence of 8 to 14 percent. This heritable disease is frequently accompanied by other substance abuse disorders (particularly nicotine), anxiety and mood disorders, and antisocial personality disorder. Although associated with considerable morbidity and mortality, alcoholism often goes unrecognized in a clinical or primary health care setting. Several brief screening instruments are available to quickly identify problem drinking, often a pre-alcoholism condition. Problem drinking can be successfully treated with brief intervention by primary care physicians. Alcohol addiction is a lifelong disease with a relapsing, remitting course. Because of the potentially serious implications of the diagnosis, assessment for alcoholism should be detailed. Alcoholism is treated by a variety of psychosocial methods with or without newly developed pharmacotherapies that improve relapse rates. Screening for problem drinking and alcoholism needs to become an integral part of the routine health screening questionnaire for adolescents and all adults, particularly women of child-bearing age, because of the risk of fetal alcohol syndrome. Alcohol misuse is …

I only drink beer, but I think I drink too much for my own good. At most I had been drinking 5 days a week for a few months. Before that 2x a week or 1x a week for years.

I think I should stop completely because it has increased. I went 4 days without, then one day with, and then 2 days without. I am guessing I have some withdrawal symptoms, but I don’t need to get special meds for it because I don’t shake, sweat or hallucinate. But I’ll get a craving after a couple days and feel a little anxious. If I drink a couple beers I will want more, but if I have one I can stop there. I’d like to stop completely, but I think it would be easier if when I had a craving after 2 – 4 days, I just drank 1 beer and stopped. Then spread it out to a week, then to nothing. Does this make any sense to do rather than white knuckle it?
Any other advice? I’m not interested in AA, but would take other suggestions.
