I’m a freshman pre-med student. I was just reading one of the questions which said the mortality rate from DT was 25%.
Could somebody explain what would cause death in this case? (in accessible terms please, I’m not past my microbiology and chemistry classes yet)

It’s so easy and fast for them to get addicted and yet it takes such a long time to get over the attachment to the drug/alcohol. Why is this so?

Check out the statistics; almost 12 percent of young Americans aged 18 years old are now addicted to illicit drugs and approximately 27 million Americans use illicit drugs regularly. The figure of those “in denial” about their drug addiction is estimated at more than 4.6 million.

My husband and I have pretty much drank 4-5 nights a week not get drunk but had a couple of drinks. I’m to the point now that I want to stop. But its hard when he still is. He doesn’t put it in front of me but I can still smell it. What can I do to disconnect from this? I want to stay healthy for my family and I’ve started running 1/2 marathons and want to get into better shape for the next.

A 22 year old caucasian male has been drinking 2 bottles of alcohol every day for the past 2 years. Otherwise, his health is “normal”.
2 days ago, he quits drinking, cold turkey.
He then start developing thoughts of suicide, is this normal?
How much more longer, will the symptoms of withdrawal last?

how long does it take to detox from alcohol? i have meds that will help me. plus im seeing a counselor. but im scared cuz Ive heard you could die. although my doc doesn’t think im that bad yet. i just want to know what i have to look forward to. i mean symtem wise.
