Is a hangover actually a withdrawal from alcohol?

It is very true that a shot, or a beer can help a hangover the morning after a night of excessive alcohol consumption. Seems to me like the reason for this is, if it wasn’t a (although mild) withdrawal it wouldn’t be relieving. Feedback?

Alcoholics and drug abusers can be treated in various formats. Their options range from inpatient treatment to outpatient therapy in the therapists office or clinic.

Substance abuse treatment centers offer different programs and treatment techniques depending on their philosophy of recovery. Also, programs can be customized to an individual patients needs in order to increase the chances of the patient staying clean and sober.

Outpatient treatment occurring in the doctors office can be an effective solution for the alcoholic or addict with a more recent history of addiction. However, treatment programs that are shorter than 90 days have a higher risk of not achieving the positive longer term result sought.

Time it takes to recover from alcohol withdrawal?

I have been drinking daily for 2 years. I have been drinking on average 12-16 beers per day. Twenty five days ago I decided I was sick of drinking and decided to quit. Instead of enduring the bad withdrawal of going cold turkey I am tapering off. So far I am sticking to the plan and all is well in that area. I am down to 2 beers per day but the anxiety is really intense. I feel like I am wired and in a fog most of the time. I have 3 days of 2 beers per day (I drink ½ a beer every 4 hours or so to take the edge off) then I am going to nothing. Has anyone ever experienced a similar situation? When can I expect to feel good again? Please answer if you have been in a slimier situation or you are a health care professional.

go into treatment centers..sometimes for months. Yet people who are withdrawing from medications for depression and/or anxiety are expected to go on with their normal lives, working, functioning as if everything was normal. When people withdraw from anti-depressants, they experience horrible withdrawal symptoms, often for months. Shouldn’t they also be admitted to a treatment center or hospital until they can function normally?
If people admit themselves to the hospital without a referral from their doctor, they could be in jeopardy of losing their job. It should be routine to offer a patient a referral to a hospital or rehab center when withdrawing from anti-depressants.

There he is. Passed out on the couch and oblivious to the world. Drunkenly content in his self-made bubble of misery and confusion. Addiction of the mind and body has all but destroyed him. The Anxiety of the loved ones increase by the day.

Can ADD be caused from a fetus being subjected to alcohol, day after day, in the womb? When the baby became a toddler, she was very hyperactive, and now as an adult, has ADD. Could this be caused from the mother drinking the whole time she was pregnant with this child? (The baby was born with delirium tremors, couldn’t breath, and was in alcohol withdrawals).
