Although detoxification is not a treatment for pain killer addiction, it can help relieve withdrawal symptoms while the patient adjusts to being free of pain killers or other prescription drugs. Addiction is both a biological and psychological condition. There are a number of effective treatment options to treat pain killer addiction to prescription opioids and to help manage the sometimes severe withdrawal symptoms that can accompany sudden stopping of pain killers or drugs.
Opioids should never be taken when drinking alcohol (also a drug) or when alcohol may still be in the system. Many chronic pain patients may be under-treated as a result of doctors who are trying to gain control over pain killer addiction, they report. Less common side effects and adverse reactions of pain killers are: confusion, hallucinations, delirium, hives, itching, hypothermia, bradycardia (slow heart rate), tachycardia (rapid heart rate), raised intracranial pressure, ureteric or biliary spasm, muscle rigidity and flushing.

My stress level is very high now, marriage and financial problems. I quit drinking alcohol 18 days ago after 9 months of drinking every other day hardcore. My stress sensors are very weak, it does not take much before I have a panic attack, 115-120 heart rate, lots of anxiety everyday. Is this from stress and alcohol withdrawal? What can I do or take to get is issue under-control it is really effecting my life big time?

Here is what is happening to me. It took me a lot of courage just to admit this to myself. Alright, lately (probably for a few months) I have been drinking a lot of alcohol. I have been doing this regularly before I go to sleep pretty much every night. I’ll have a few drinks of beer, wine, or champagne. I have been doing this as a way of coping with my mental illness (I have schizophrenia).
Lately, I have been noticing that when I don’t have alcohol, I suffer from withdrawal symptoms. I will have a racing heart, difficulty sleeping, a feeling of strong anxiety, and sometimes nausea or dizziness. Last night it was the worst. I had a drink, but I still got the withdrawal symptoms because I didn’t have a lot. Now today, I am very nauseous, and wasn’t able to concentrate in school. I had a nervous breakdown at school. I know that I won’t be able to drink tonight, and I am afraid of suffering more withdrawal symptoms.
I want to know how I can get rid of this addiction. I don’t plan on telling my parents about this because I am so ashamed. I have a family history of addiction to drugs and alcohol. I want to know how I can get over the addiction. Please don’t give any rude answers. I just want to get help.
Is it necessary for me to go to rehab to quit? Is there any way that I could recover on my own (without medical intervention)?

I am an alcoholic and I’m currently weaning myself off alcohol, I’m afraid to go cold turkey because I tried that once before and had a couple seizures, hallucinations & DT’s, the Dr’s at the time told my family that I might not survive, after 5 days in ICU I did recover and stayed sober several months but about a month ago I sucumbed to my addiction at started drinking heavily again. I want to stop drinking but I don’t want to risk death in doing so. This time I hope to wean myself by gradually reducing my daily intake of alcohol. I’m currently down to 10 beers a day and my plan is to reduce my daily intake by one beer a day until I get down to no beers a day. Is this weaning method safe or do I still run the risk of severe alcohol withdrawal even if I wean myself vs stopping cold turkey. I’ve heard the Vitamin B is essential for the proper function of the nervous system, will a vitamin B shot help minimize the chance of me experiencing severe withdrawal systems? Please advise.
