Question by Sunny: If someone is used to drinking an obscene amount of alcohol how long will it take for them to be?
stabilized without it in in a hospital setting?

By obscene amount, I’m talking about up to 1/2 a gallon of vodka a day (yes, I’m serious). They have drank this way for years. They are not hospitalized for alcoholism.

The person in question is receiving meds and vitamins etc. to help through the withdrawal, but how long till the withdrawal (physical) of alcohol becomes a non factor in their treatment?
LOL it’s not me. I drink a lot, but not nearly that much!

other than compassion, caring, loving, taking extremely good care of, and just trying to understand? The irritability is really getting to me when I am doing everything possible. I need some new answers, since mine don’t seem to be working

basically i heard something that you can suffer the same kinds of withdrawal symptoms as you get from giving up alcohol if you dont see someone for a long time…..

what i want to know is, is there any truth to this statement and can anyone explain why?

and is there anything you can do about it if its not possible to see that person??

The depressing part of alcohol and withdrawal..can someone explain it to me?
i don’t get hangovers, even though i am an alcoholic. But i know that if somethings bothering me i get really angry and high-strung,the next morning. But when i take ALOT of caffeine the feeling alleviates itself and i am calmer…Is this part of your body just rea cting to the stimulants after being on a depressant binge the night before?

Alcohol Addiction – What is alcoholism?
Alcohol addiction is simply defined as a compulsive need for an intoxicating liquid that is obtained from fermented grain or fruit. These liquids include beer, wine, and other hard liquors.

Alcoholism is present when a person craves alcohol and cannot limit or contain his or her drinking. If someone experiences withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, or anxiety when alcohol consumption has ceased, or if there is a need to drink greater amounts of alcohol in order to feel a high, that person is most likely alcoholic.

My parents are both away, in another country, and I’m not exactly close to any other relative. I just want someone to talk to.

We have a family member who has severe arthritis, is clinically depressed, takes pain medication to excess, then goes through withdrawals for several weeks before the next prescription can be filled and abuses alcohol.

Recently, we discovered that this family member has been stealing pain medication from other people in the family — to the point these other family members have also been put through the same withdrawal roller coaster.
