I’m on my second day of alcohol withdrawal and am having periodic panic attacks, nearly constant anxiety, and a rapid heart beat–which comes in waves.

I’m twenty-seven years old and otherwise healthy. Lying in bed all day has worsened the already-occurring insomnia and I feel I need to exercise.

Alcoholism is a serious, chronic and potentially fatal condition in which a person has an uncontrollable urge to drink alcoholic beverages. Alcoholism can be seen in all the rich and the poor, the young and the old, and males and females. It has been estimated that 75 percent of alcoholics are male and 25 percent are female. Biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors all seem to play a role in the development of alcoholism. Children with a biological parent who is an alcoholic are more likely to become alcoholics than are children who do not have an alcoholic parent. Peer pressure, the social acceptability of drinking, and a desire to escape from emotional stress and anxiety can all set the stage for a person’s descent into alcohol addiction.

Can ADD be caused from a fetus being subjected to alcohol, day after day, in the womb? When the baby became a toddler, she was very hyperactive, and now as an adult, has ADD. Could this be caused from the mother drinking the whole time she was pregnant with this child? (The baby was born with delirium tremors, couldn’t breath, and was in alcohol withdrawals).
