What’s this called?
I know that ‘the shakes’, or delirium tremens, is what happens as a result of withdrawal from alcohol but what’s it called when you drink so much that you start to shake? What is it called if someone’s exhibits DT symptoms from drinking TOO MUCH as opposed to stopping.
Please, don’t bother preaching & trying to pass it off as an ‘answer’.

Anorexia RULES!!!!!!!
overdose?
if you are “convulsing” or shaking during “acute alcohol intoxication” you need a doctor immediatly.if you shake when you don’t drink, you still need a doctor.if you can’t cut down or quit by yourself.
Drinking too much can cause you to go into a seizure. Also a lot of alcohol has a lot of sugar so it could have something to do with blood sugar.
You normally only get ‘shaky’ or seizures during the withdrawal from alcohol. However, its possible to be withdrawing from alcohol even while drunk; it depends on the amounts your body is used to. I’ve seen someone exhibit withdrawal symptoms with a 0.4% BAC before, though thats pretty rare.
I can’t honestly say what would cause you to shake other than that. Stumble, fall over, stutter, sure, but shake? Doesn’t normally happen from drinking too much. It could be symptomatic of something else indirectly related to drinking. Blood sugar (too low or too high) comes to mind, but still, I’d think that the powerful sedating effects of alcohol would mask any shakes you’d have from blood sugar issues. I’m stumped.
Whatever it is, it’s probably not good, and I’d recommend this person see a doctor about it ASAP.
Are you taking any medications? I’ve had similar experiences when I’ve drank a lot and was on meds. If you are taking something, I suggest looking up some of the side effects online (most drugs have their own websites nowadays). Some meds are known to cause seizures if mixed with something or if too much is taken.
If you’re not on any meds, it could be a reaction to the amount of alcohol you drank or even a symptom of a medical condition. You might want to consider talking to your doctor if the problem persists.
Or if you’d rather not see someone in person, webMD has a lot of good info, including message boards where you can converse with people who may have had the same experiences with this problem as you.
This is from webMD that addresses some of your concerns. They mention “abuse” and “dependence,” but I’m definitely not trying to preach to you, nor am I saying you’re alcohol dependent. This was just the closest thing I could find that provided insight into your question:
When to Call a Doctor
Call 911 or other emergency services for a person who has consumed alcohol and is:
* Experiencing alcohol poisoning symptoms–such as unconsciousness, seizures, or difficulty breathing–after binge drinking.
* Having serious withdrawal symptoms, such as confusion and severe trembling. Severe withdrawal symptoms, such as delirium tremens (DTs), can in rare cases lead to death.
* Thinking or talking about suicide or violence to others.
Call a health professional immediately if you or a person close to you:
* Has a history of heavy drinking and is having severe symptoms of withdrawal but is not willing to get treatment.
* Agrees to be evaluated for possible treatment. People who postpone a health evaluation often do not follow through with making the appointment.
* Has a relapse of alcohol abuse or dependence.
Good luck!
